Intern (m/f/d) Refugee Inclusion Accelerator (RISE)

According to UNHCR, around 118 million people worldwide are currently forcibly displaced (Global Trends Report, June 2026). Protecting refugees and creating prospects for them is a particularly important humanitarian and development policy task for the international community. At the same time, funding for humanitarian refugee assistance has deteriorated significantly since 2025, and cuts are continuing. This makes the shift from parallel humanitarian systems towards integrated state services for refugees an increasingly urgent question. The Refugee Inclusion Accelerator (RISE) Global Programme, commissioned by BMZ and implemented by GIZ, aims to strategically support the integration of refugees into national systems in the areas of education, social protection and the economy, within the framework of the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus. This is achieved through advisory services for national governments as well as through innovation labs and learning processes that jointly develop tailored approaches for refugee inclusion and the resilience of host communities in displacement contexts. In this way, the programme benefits refugees, host communities and governments alike.

As an intern with the RISE Programme, you will support the global coordination unit in Germany with programme planning, steering and implementation. This includes in particular:

• Assisting the programme management with organisational and strategic processes
• Contributing to country-related analytical products of the programme, such as context and risk analyses, including research, drafting and incorporating feedback from technical teams
• Providing organisational and technical/methodological support for cross-country workshops and innovative learning formats, both in-person and online
• Supporting the development of concepts for the innovation labs, for example through concept notes, factsheets and background research on country and policy contexts
• Supporting the preparation of lessons learned and good-practice examples
• Supporting the creation and graphic design of communication and knowledge products for internal and external audiences, such as presentations and visualisations
• Conducting further research in the programme's thematic areas, in particular on innovative approaches in displacement and migration contexts in partner countries

• Currently studying social sciences, international relations, peace and conflict studies, refugee and migration studies, or another relevant field
• Basic understanding of key issues related to displacement, as well as relevant documents and frameworks, including the Global Compact on Refugees
• Basic understanding of development and humanitarian action and relevant policy approaches, including the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus
• Initial work experience supporting project management in international contexts
• A careful and structured way of working with formalised procedures, for example in procurement and contracting processes
• Excellent communication skills, in particular fluent written and spoken German and English. Fluent French is an advantage
• A strong ability to translate complex content into relevant internal and external communication products is an advantage
