Intern (m/f/d) – Climate Adaptation and International Climate Finance in Chad

Climate change poses increasing challenges to sustainable development and livelihoods in Chad. Against this background, GIZ is supporting the preparation of a potential climate adaptation project in close cooperation with Chadian government institutions and relevant national and international partners.

The preparation process includes technical and institutional analyses, stakeholder consultations and the development of a potential project concept in collaboration with an external consulting team, with a view to mobilising international climate finance, including through the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

As part of your internship, your responsibilities will include the following: 

• Conduct research on climate change adaptation, climate resilience and international climate finance
• Review and summarise relevant studies, data, policy and strategic documents
• Support the preparation of GIZ inputs and contributions to the Concept Note development process
• Prepare presentations, briefings, background documents and other project materials
• Support the organisation, preparation and follow-up of workshops, meetings and consultations, including agendas, materials and documentation
• Support the day-to-day organisation of the project preparation process, including tracking deadlines, deliverables and agreed follow-up actions
• Support the coordination with the consulting team and other project partners, including compiling and organising inputs and feedback
• Contribute to other analytical and organisational tasks arising during the project preparation

• Ongoing university studies in environmental or climate sciences, international development, political or social sciences, economics, geography or another relevant field, ideally with a focus on climate change, climate policy or sustainable development
• Good understanding of climate change and development issues and a strong interest in climate adaptation and international climate finance
• Good analytical and writing skills and the ability to research, structure and summarise information clearly
• Good organisational skills, attention to detail and a proactive and solution-oriented working style, with the ability to take ownership of assigned tasks and follow them through reliably
• Good command of Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint, Word and Excel, and ability to prepare clear and well-structured presentations, briefings and workshop materials
• Excellent command of English and French, both written and spoken, and good command of German
• First practical exposure to climate adaptation, climate finance or related topics
• First practical experience in international cooperation or project-related work, e.g. through internships, student jobs or volunteering
• Experience in preparing presentations, briefings and/or workshop materials
• Good command of Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint, Word and Excel, and familiarity with digital collaboration and research tools
• Interest in Chad, the Sahel and/or Francophone Africa
