Job description

Access to energy is a pre-requisite for sustainable economic and social development. However, significant inequalities in energy access persist patrially due to products being unaffordable for marginalised population groups. Through its component Energy Access through Demand-Side Subsidies (DSS), Energising Development (EnDev) is piloting DSS mechanisms to promote access to subsidised solar home systems or improved / clean cookstoves for marginalised households (incl. refugees and host communities), while minimising market distortion and encouraging collaboration with the private sector. About EnDev: The EnDev partnership is a joint results-oriented global programme of Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Switzerland. EnDev's objective is to provide access to modern energy services for households, social institutions as well as small and medium sized enterprises. EnDev is active in 20+ countries in Africa and Asia.

Your tasks

During your internship you'll have the following tasks:

  • Supporting EnDev with the implementation of the DSS pilots across Liberia, Malawi, Niger and Uganda
  • Assisting in the documentation and development of lessons learned from each of the DSS pilots
  • Supporting the development and implementation of DSS studies and evaluations
  • Contributing to the exchange with international stakeholders on demand-side subsidies
  • Assisting with the development and design of communication materials
  • Supporting day-to-day project activities, with potential for involvement in additional EnDev activities

Your profile

  • university studies in Science, Social Science, Economics or a related interdisciplinary field with a focus on energy, development, or other relevant areas
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Good organisational and planning skills
  • Good communication (written and oral) skills as well as the ability to effectively build relationships
  • Good knowledge and experience in the use of MS Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel); knowledge in working with MS Teams is desirable
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory, German and French are an asset
  • Regional expertise or experience in Sub-Saharan Africa are desirable
  • Expertise or experience in development cooperation or the energy sector are desirable
