Job description

The planning, implementation and revision of national climate action is a complex process, requiring extensive coordination and outreach, and a clear understanding of target-setting within national priorities. Countries are therefore often stretched when it comes to fulfilling the various tasks called for under the Paris Agreement and the international climate regime.

To support countries in these areas, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) launched the self-funded NDC Partnership Readiness Project (NRP) in 2023 to further increase partner countries’ capacities to assess and sequence their existing and immediate climate policy and planning needs, and to provide high quality preparation support. Based on a country driven and tailor-made approach, the project offers improved access to international climate resources through the NDC Partnership, providing technical assistance for the development of actionable measures for national climate action, capacity building and knowledge exchange opportunities.

This internship offers the opportunity to gain experiences in the thematic areas on NDC preparation and implementation and the NDC Partnership Country Engagement over a period of 6 months (tentative start of internship 21.04.2025).

  • Support in internal knowledge management, organizational tasks and communication activities, e. g. for the support of country processes within the framework of the NDC Partnership

  • Support of the organization and implementation of peer-to-peer exchanges in partner countries
  • Support in the preparation and implementation of (virtual) events and country visits with partner projects and partner organisations

Your profile

  • Completed bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study (political, environmental, social sciences, or similar)
  • Previous knowledge of climate policy issues and initial experience in development cooperation
