Job description

The Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) is a framework for strategic dialogue between Africa and the EU. The overall objective of the AEEP is to improve access to secure, affordable, and sustainable energy for both continents, with a special focus on increasing investment in energy infrastructure in Africa. GIZ hosts the AEEP Secretariat, and it is one of our instruments of the wider Global Energy TransitioTransformation Programme (GET.pro) project.

Ensuring optimal communication through information sharing and alignment between African and European actors is a key function of the Secretariat. The AEEP Secretariat organises an annual conference (AEEP Forum) and a regular webinar series (AEEP Energy Talks). The intern will be based in Bonn and work in a highly dynamic, politically framed setting, with international staff in Africa and Europe to support the core activities of the AEEP.

Your tasks

As the Communications and Events Management Intern your tasks will include:

1. Events Management Support

  • Support the AEEP Secretariat team in the organisation and management of the bi-continental AEEP Forum and other high-level events, including venue booking, speaker coordination, travel arrangements, and other logistics
  • Assist in organising and staging the AEEP Energy Talks and other small-format online or in-person events, including drafting of agendas, preparation of speaker invitations, participant management and documentation of event outcomes
    Assist with the organisation of AEEP meetings and support partner events (online & onsite), including planning and logistics

2. Communication Support

  • Draft high-quality communications material and standardised AEEP communication products including press releases, articles and newsletters
  • Develop inspiring presentations, documents, publications and/or communication materials according to specific event needs
  • Support in the maintenance, update and creation of content for the AEEP website and social media channels
  • Monitor and analyze media coverage of AEEP activities
  • Support the development and implementation of AEEP's communication strategy

Your profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Social or Political Sciences, Development Studies or similar
  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, tact and diplomacy required
  • Ability to work as part of a team, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • An ability between instances of supervision to work semi-autonomously and under pressure
  • Training and especially prior experience in communications and event management would be an advantage
  • Profound skills in MS office required (in particular but not limited to Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Skills in online editing software and social media platforms is a strong asset
  • Fluent in English with German or French competence as an advantage; (excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in other languages (German, French) an added advantage)
