Our Offer

Within the Caribbean, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) supports regional cooperation on climate resilience, environmental sustainability, biodiversity conservation, renewable energy, circular economy approaches, and inclusive economic transformation. These priorities are implemented through a new regional GIZ portfolio developed in partnership with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and its 15 member states.

The Caribbean region faces complex and interconnected challenges, including the impacts of climate change, biodiversity loss, unsustainable waste management, energy insecurity, and limited economic opportunities for young people. In response, GIZ is implementing six regional projects that support sustainable and climate-resilient development across the Caribbean. The projects focus on green and blue skills development, the sustainable blue economy, climate-resilient energy systems, circular economy approaches, biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of organic waste and sargassum. All six regional projects started in 2025 and will run until 2028/2029. The main executing partner is the CARICOM Secretariat, based in Guyana. Country-level implementation focuses particularly on Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The GIZ project office for the portfolio is based in Saint Lucia, while the GIZ Regional Office in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic oversees the wider Caribbean portfolio.

You will support strategic communication and public outreach activities across the GIZ Caribbean portfolio in close coordination with the knowledge management team. Tasks include developing communication content, supporting social media outreach, devlopment of website, preparing communication materials, and assisting with digital, hybrid, and in-person events.

Your tasks

During the internship, you will perform the following tasks:  

  • Support the team in developing and implementing a communication strategy
  • Support the development of a website with CARICOM
  • Support the creation of content for communications and social media outreach, including the creation and editing of communication materials such as fact sheets, presentations, and social media posts
  • Assist with communication activities, including drafting texts and preparing targeted communication materials
  • Support the coordination and content preparation for the development of a CARICOM web page related to GIZ-supported implementation activities, project outputs, and knowledge products
  • Support the team in planning, organizing, and implementing digital, hybrid, and in-person events
  • Support cooperation with external service providers in the areas of graphic design, copywriting, video production, and event management
  • Assist in preparing presentations, reports, communication materials, and translations
  • Support the planning and implementation of communication measures and draft various types of written content (e. g. talking points, fact sheets, presentations, website articles etc.)
  • Actively create and publish content for social media channels such as Instagram and LinkedIn
  • Support colleagues with communication advisory tasks
  • Support internal GIZ communication, quality assurance, and the creative preparation of communication products (proofreading, corporate design)

Your Profile

  • Completed university degree (at least Bachelor’s level) in communications, media studies, journalism, social sciences, or another relevant field
  • Initial relevant practical experience, e. g. through internships, working student positions, or academic projects in communication, messaging, content creation, social media and development of websites
  • Interest in and initial experience with public relations, communications, and knowledge transfer
  • Initial experience in editorial writing and event management is desirable
  • Ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new topics, combined with a confident and clear writing style
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize multiple tasks with tight deadlines in a reliable manner
  • Strong team player with the ability to work independently when required
  • Fluent written and spoken German and English
  • Very good knowledge of standard Office applications, especially MS PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of visualization tools, e. g. InDesign, Canva, Photoshop or infographic software
  • Fluent French and Spanish language skills are an advantage
