Job description

The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a program for violence prevention and peace building in crisis and conflict regions. In Lebanon, CPS promotes the social integration of Syrian refugees into Lebanese society as part of the program component "Prevention of violence through the reduction of stereotypes and prejudices by dialogue and media". This program is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is implemented by GIZ. Conflict-sensitive dialogue work is used to stimulate a change in attitudes at various levels of society to reduce the propensity to violence in dealing with conflicts in the long term. As a CPS specialist you advise the organization "Assabil - Association" in Beirut and the organization "Shift" in Tripoli. Additionally you will identify new partner organizations in Beirut and jointly develop conflict-sensitive projects on the topics of migration, human rights and Mental Health and Psychol-Social Support (MHPSS).  

Your tasks

  • Supporting the conceptual development of the program component "Prevention of violence through the reduction of stereotypes and prejudices by dialogue and media"
  • Planning of conflict-sensitive dialogue projects in cooperation with partner organizations
  • Consulting, development and implementation of trainings on MHPSS measures for staff and beneficiaries of partner organizations
  • Identification of training needs, conception of training materials, workshops and trainings for advanced trainings in the field of dialogue and MHPSS
  • Mainstreaming of MHPSS measures in the CPS Lebanon programs
  • Participation in working group and network meetings, Nexus MHPSS and Peacebuilding, Staffcare
  • Documentation of activities carried out, as well as participation in knowledge exchange and cooperation with colleagues within CPS Lebanon and local CPS partners

Your profile

  • University degree in humanities, social sciences, peace and conflict studies, psychology or social work
  • Knowledge in the field of conflict-sensitive project work in an international context
  • Experience in the design and implementation of trainings and projects at the nexus of MHPSS and peace building for civil society institutions
  • Understanding of conflict dynamics and complex political and social processes in crisis regions, as well as knowledge of the situation in Syria and Lebanon
  • Previous experience in peace building in the region desirable
  • Ability to work in a team, enjoyment of creative, partnership- and process-oriented work, as well as resilience and high frustration tolerance
  • Fluent English skills; Arabic skills are an asset

Most nursery and school fees are paid.You and the members of your family accompanying you will be covered by our health and liability insurance, while your family members will also benefit from accident insurance. In countries in crisis, we operate a comprehensive risk management system for your protection, which minimises personal dangers and risks.We are a provider of international cooperation services for sustainable development and work to build a future worth living around the world. We support projects in over 130 countries to achieve goals sustainably together with our partners.Extensive check-ups and preventive measures (e.g. on appointment, before the outward journey, during the stay in a country of assignment, in an emergency) are provided to our staff and the family members accompanying them as a matter of course.We will reimburse you for your rental costs based on the rent index for your country as well as paying you an equipment and furnishing allowance on top.As a development worker, you can use the project vehicle for trips to school or to visit a doctor or can receive a monthly lump-sum mobility allowance instead. The project vehicle can also be used for personal trips with your manager’s approval.
